Louis MacNaughton Friday 11th February 2011-02-11 Comparing poems In this essay I pass be looking at both poems rough children and the affinitys with their p arents. Catrin is a poem written by Gillian Clarke and its about her daughter, Catrin and how she has instantly grown up. Gillian Clarke talks about how she feels and also, about her consanguinity with her daughter. In Seamus Heaneys poem the confederate, he talks his relationship with his engender and how he would follow him near as a child. Seamus is today grown up and comments on how his let follows him around, in his octogenarian age. The attitude and relationships between produce and daughter, catch and son are opposites. In Catrin the daughter is trying to gain independence, whereas in follower the son is trying to as unspoilt as tiro and follow in his footsteps, hence the name Follower, Heaney is everlastingly adult the impression of h ow good his father is at ploughing, an manakin of this is when he starts the second stanza with An expert this gives the idea of Heaney being real move with his father and how he works.
In the 5th stanza Seamus says all in all I ever did was follow in his broad rear around the farm, This gives the impression that Heaney wanted to be as good as his father, save when he says In his broad arse the enter is given that he wants to be like his father but cant because he cant fit up to his expertise, and cant fill his boots, exactly today at the end of the poem Heaney is now older and his father has engender eld erly, and now the table has turned, you can ! tell this when he says But today it is my father who keeps stumbling behind me, and will non go away. Whereas in Catrin it is the opposite, instead of being the child in the story, Clarke writes as the mother. In Catrin the daughter is trying to part from the mother and plow independent.
